32-year-old Tom Foster, aide to Democratic Congressman Sander Levin of Michigan, was arrested by Baltimore police at around 2:30 AM on October 8 following the incident involving an unidentified 39-year-old man, who police say is Foster's boyfriend.

Arrest records indicate a fight between Foster and his boyfriend turned violent, and Foster is accused of beating and choking the victim in an attack that involved a shovel and a kitchen knife.

Foster allegedly chased the man up a flight of stairs.

"When you reach the fifth step, I am going to stab you," the report cited Foster as saying.

In the end, Foster's wife, who was also present, made her husband drop the knife.

The man was taken to the hospital by police officers with serious injuries to his upper back, torso and neck.

Foster's wife tried to stop him from stabbing his alleged lover, but he beat the man twice with a shovel.

Foster has worked for Levin for seven years, the representative's spokesperson Hilarie Chambers stated, adding that the aide was placed on unpaid leave in the wake of the incident.

Foster faces assault and weapons charges, and is set to appear in court on November 10.
