Italian Financial Guard Searches Volkswagen, Lamborghini Offices
Italian prosecutors issued a search warrant and began an investigation into the the Volkswagen Group on suspicion of commercial fraud over a recent emission scandal.
ROME (Sputnik) — The Italian Financial Guard is searching offices belonging to the Volkswagen Group in Verona and a Lamborghini office in Bologna, Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported Thursday.
Verona prosecutors issued a search warrant and began an investigation into the automobile manufacturer on suspicion of commercial fraud over a recent emission scandal.
14 October 2015, 17:14 GMT
Searches were conducted at the Volkswagen offices and also in the office of the Italian of luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini, which is also included in the Volkswagen group.
Last month, the US Environmental Protection Agency accused Volkswagen of installing software in the company’s diesel engines to falsify emissions test results.
The automaker later clarified that an estimated 11 million of their diesel engine cars worldwide had software installed that was engineered to downplay emission discharges. The engines are now shown to be emitting up to 20 times more greenhouse gas than reported by official tests.
