A Cypriot delegation, headed by Kasoulides, arrived in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod earlier on Thursday to participate in a Cypriot-Russian business forum.
"We want to emphasize once again and draw your attention to the fact that we have been and remain faithful friends, partners and allies of Russia," Kasoulides told reporters.
"On our part, we assure you that we do everything possible to keep our communication [with Russia]," the ambassador added.
Relations between Russia and the European Union deteriorated over a Ukrainian crisis which escalated in 2014. The West has blamed Russia for its alleged interference in a conflict in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region and imposed several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions. Moscow has repeatedly denied the accusations.
Cyprus has been a member of the European Union since 2004.
