Turkey Should Not Allow Politics to Stand in Way of Becoming Major Gas Hub
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A meeting of Russian and Turkish military officials in Ankara on Thursday was an important step toward prevention of airspace accidents, Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Kemal Aydin said.

A military delegation from Russia led by Deputy Commander of Russian Aerospace Forces Lt. Gen. Sergei Dronov arrived in Ankara to discuss airspace accident prevention with Turkish military officials, the Turkish General Staff said earlier in the day.

"We consider today's meeting at the Turkish General Staff in Ankara with Gen. Dronov to be a very important step in settling the situation. I hope the similar incidents between Turkey and Russia will not continue," the Turkish deputy foreign minister said at a Russian-Turkish conference in Moscow.

Turkey-Russia Relations 'Should Not Be Sacrificed' to Interests in Syria
On September 30, Russia launched airstrikes against targets of the Islamic State (ISIL) militants in Syria, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.

After the operation began, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said a Russian military aircraft violated the country’s airspace near Syria on October 3. The Russian Defense Ministry later confirmed that on October 3 an Su-30 Flanker multirole fighter briefly entered Turkish airspace for a few seconds due to poor weather conditions. Russia apologized for the incident.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told journalists later that the incident involving a Russian jet entering Turkish airspace had not affected relations between the countries. According to Davutoglu, Moscow assured Ankara that such incidents would not take place in the future.
