CIS Leaders Sign Five-Year Strategic Military Cooperation Framework

A military cooperation framework between the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members for 2016-2020 was signed at the CIS leaders' summit on Friday.

BURABAI (Kazakhstan) (Sputnik) The CIS summit is underway in Kazakhstan with 17 issues on the agenda. The Russian delegation is headed by President Vladimir Putin.

Apart from the above, leaders signed CIS member-state cooperation agreement for strengthening border security and a document for the establishment of a CIS border agencies' group to address situations at the bloc's external borders.

CIS member-state heads also signed a declaration on countering international terrorism as well as a number of other documents.

The CIS includes Russia and eight other former Soviet republics.
