WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, Bloomberg News reported that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Bureau of Investigations and Secret Service were conducting a probe into an alleged Russian hack of the Dow Jones servers, as well the Wall Street Journal and other new publications.
“To the best of our knowledge, we have received no information from the authorities about any such alleged matter,” Dow Jones said in a press release.
Dow Jones will also be investigating “whether there is any truth whatsoever to this report by a competitor news organization,” referring to the report.
Citing “four people familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg reported that the hackers stole financial information in order to make trades before the information became public.
The SEC public affairs office informed Sputnik on Friday that it was unable to comment on any investigations “unless and until we bring action in court.”
Bloomberg also stated that an investigation had been ongoing for over one year by the US federal agencies.
