WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Sullivan was speaking two days after three US states — Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania — announced on Tuesday that they were joining forces to advance the fracking industry in their territories.
"This use of public resources to defend fracking is a sign of how desperate the oil and gas industry and its political allies are becoming," Sullivan said on Thursday. "The grass roots movement to rein in this threat to our health and environment is too strong to be thwarted by pandering politicians."
Fracking is a technique of extracting shale gas and oil by injecting pressurized toxic liquid into the ground. Experts warn that the process endangers the environment through leakage of poisonous liquid materials into ground water.
"People understand that fracking pollutes our air and water and endangers our climate, and they want this toxic technique stopped before more damage is done," Sullivan said.
