MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Over 17,000 weapons and military equipment have been delivered to the Russian armed forces in 2015, the head of Russia’s National Defense Management Center said Monday.
"Over 3,000 state contracts have been signed this year, in which over 17,000 basic weapons, military and special equipment have been delivered to the armed forces," Lt. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev said.
Mizintsev said supplying Russian troops with modern arms held top priority for the National Defense Management Center.
"Supplying troops with the latest weapons and military equipment to fulfil the obligations of state defense orders in 2015 already practically corresponds to parameters planned in the current year," he stressed.
Russia is currently undergoing a $325-billion rearmament program to achieve a 70-percent modernization of its military by 2020.
