WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The latest intelligence leaks on the US clandestine lethal drone program will be investigated by the House of Representatives Homeland Security subcommittee, Homeland Security Staff Director Brett DeWitt told Sputnik.
"We are just looking into it now, we have a whole committee dedicated to looking at the drone issue," DeWitt stated on Tuesday.
Last week, the online media outlet The Intercept reported on leaked Pentagon documents exposing the secretive US lethal drone program.
Dewitt said of the latest intelligence leak, "we will raise it with our investigation team and go from there."
The existence of the lethal drone program under Pentagon and Central Intelligence Agency direction remained secret until the Obama administration first acknowledged its existence in 2012.
The US use of lethal drone strikes has reportedly gone on since 2004 in the early years of the US War on Terror.
