MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia is interested in increasing naval cooperation with Cuba, and possibilities for Russian-Cuban military-technical cooperation will be discussed at a special meeting, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Tuesday.
"We are interested in boosting cooperation in the military-navy sphere," Shoigu said during a meeting with Ricardo Cabrisas, the vice president of Cuba’s Council of Ministers.
"Of course, a different issue is our military-technical cooperation, which is developing quite actively and has a very positive and dynamic character. We shall discuss it during the work of the commission on military-technical cooperation," Shoigu said.
Cuba and Russian relations have always been warm, dating back to Soviet times. Russian Ambassador to Cuba Mikhail Kamynin said in June that the countries were in the final stage of coordinating new energy and steel projects.
