MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia will continue reinforcing its armed forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a ceremony appointing senior officers to command posts on Tuesday.
"Our Army and Navy remain a reliable guarantor of the country’s sovereignty, they play a key role in ensuring global and regional security," Putin said in the Kremlin.
The Russian commander-in-chief mentioned modern management systems and improved quality and intensity of combat training as two prioritized fields for the Russian Armed Forces.
Putin said Russian troops had conducted over 3,000 training exercises and sessions, completing a number of complicated challenges.
"Snap comprehensive inspections have shown high readiness and increasing combat capabilities of all military district units," he stressed.
Russia is currently undergoing a $325-billion rearmament program to achieve a 70-percent modernization of its military by 2020.
