US Vice President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday he will not run for presidency in 2016.
“I believe we are out of time necessary to mount a winning campaign for the nomination,” Biden said. “I will not be a candidate."
The vice president added that even though he is not running, he plans to influence on where the Democratic party stands and where the United States “needs to go as a nation.”
In the summer, Biden’s eldest son Beau died of brain cancer, and the US vice president has previously said his son’s death had affected his decision on the presidential race.
Biden had spent months deliberating with his family and political advisers about a potential late entry to the Democratic primary. His decision has removed a
huge political obstacle for the Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 8, 2016.
