"It is clear that the visit of Syrian President Bashar Assad to Moscow is a powerful political strike by Vladimir Putin. It is a message, telling the international community what will happen in the region in the near future," he said. "This message is more powerful than the Russian rockets, it tells of the seriousness of Russian relations with Syria and the Assad government."
Akoum stressed that Russia wants to send the international community a message: at this historical stage, you can't "play games" with Russia, especially regarding the Syrian issue.
"Moscow is using this visit to declare that it is completely serious about protecting the region from terrorism, especially after the terrorism had spread and the US and the international community were unable to deal with it," Akoum said.
He also added that the meeting between Assad and Putin displayed the consistency of Russia’s stance on the Syrian crisis.
