WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Components for Global Hawk unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, are now being produced in South Korea, their principal manufacturer Northrop Grumman said in a press release.
“During the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition, Northrop Grumman… and its supplier partners celebrated the first component parts manufactured in the Republic of Korea [South Korea] for the country's RQ-4 Global Hawk…UAS,” the release, issued on Thursday, stated.
The Global Hawk provides a broad overview and systematic intelligence of target areas by using high-resolution radar and long-range electro-optical and infrared sensors.
Global Hawk supports military missions, anti-terrorism, anti-piracy, scientific and environmental work, as well as humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts anywhere in the world, Northrop Grumman added.
