Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the country’s government fighting a number of opposition factions and radical Islamist militant organizations, including Islamic State (ISIL). Russia has been conducting precision airstrikes against IS positions in Syria at the request of President Bashar Assad since September 30.
"We are open to cooperation with the United States and other countries who are genuinely interested in seeing this conflict settled. But so far the only positive response from the US that we have received got was on this deconflicting memorandum of understanding for the two air forces," Chizhov told CNN in an interview on Wednesday.
Chizhov added that Russia had no intentions of imposing its vision on post-war Syria and that Syrians should chart the country's future on their own.
A US-led coalition of some 60 nations has been bombing ISIL targets there for over a year without the backing of the UN or the Syrian government.
