MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina, jailed over corruption allegations, blamed the United States for interfering in the country’s internal affairs, as well as manipulating the justice system.
"They are using [drugs] in the United States and instead of aiming to reduce the consumption, they are fighting in our countries <…> Death, violence and instability in our country are because of dollars and weapons from the United States," Perez Molina said in an exclusive interview with RT television channel.
In early September, Perez Molina resigned and was jailed for three months amid a major corruption conspiracy involving Guatemala's now resigned vice president Roxana Baldetti, which enabled officials to lower customs taxes in exchange for bribes.
