DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad confirmed the strong commitment of the two states to bring the fight against terrorism to its logical conclusion, speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament Valentina Matvienko said in a letter to speaker of Syria's People's Council Mohammad Jihad Laham Saturday.
“A meeting of the Russian and Syrian Presidents in Moscow reaffirmed the full convergence of positions on the issue and commitment of the countries to bring this fight to its logical conclusion. We are ready to continue promoting political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Syria, as well as providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian people,” the letter said.
The delegation, comprising Russian parliamentarians, has arrived in Damascus with humanitarian and political mission on Friday.
The Russian parliamentarians are also planning to meet with Syrian government officials.
