DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — On September 30, Russia began to conduct pinpoint airstrikes at Islamic State positions in Syria at Assad's request. The Russian airstrikes hit targets that are chosen based on intelligence collected by Russia, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
Meanwhile, the Syrian army continues its offensive in the country's western regions fighting against terrorist groups.
"The victory over terrorist groups will lead to a political solution that we are seeking in Russia and Syria for the Syrian people, the Syrian sovereignty, its independence and territorial integrity," the president said.
