Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles were delivered and unloaded at one of the seaports in southwestern Latvia. In addition, more ammunition and hardware parts for US military vehicles were brought to Latvia. Some of these parts will be shipped further to Estonia and Lithuania, Delfi said.
Meanwhile, a scandal erupted in Latvia after photos from a September NATO drill were posted on social media. In some pictures, members of a US special police unit were seen arresting civilian targets.
The Latvian public raised a legitimate question: why was the US special police unit arresting people on the territory of a foreign country?
US, Britain and Germany Continue to Scramble for the Baltics
The United States, Britain and Germany have all been scrambling to put their own troops in the Baltic States as of late. Washington, London and Berlin are so eager protect the Baltics from Russian "aggression" that it is creating friction among them.
Second, by providing "protection," London and Berlin could then possibly send refugees to the Baltics. The locals of course will be against it, but no refugees would mean no protection.
And thirdly, a presence in the Baltics is a great opportunity for the United States, Britain and Germany to make the full use of their aging military hardware.
