Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail accepted resignation of Mesery after the rains caused death of at least 5 people, Egyptian Ahram Online news website reported Sunday.
Egyptian government decided to allocate some $9.7 million to upgrade the city’s rain drainage system that had not been repaired for years. Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah Sisi called for extra government meeting on Monday morning to discuss the disaster.
Floods during the rainy season paralyze the city on a regular basis. In 2014, the waters raged for several days making a significant damage to the city.
