NEW DELHI (Sputnik) – India might send its National Disaster Response Force to Afghanistan to help deal with the effects of the powerful earthquake, an Indian Home Ministry source told Sputnik Monday.
"In view of the earthquake in the Afghanistan and Pakistan, India is likely to send its National Disaster Response Force team to Afghanistan for the relief and rehabilitation efforts," the source stated.
Earlier in the day, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan's northeastern Hindu Kush region. The tremor caused multiple casualties and damage to buildings in neighboring countries, with Pakistan among the countries worst hit by the quake.
The tragedy continues to unfold, reflected in the quickly rising death tolls being reported by the media in both countries.
In particular, the Geo TV channel reported that 73 people died in Pakistan alone due to the devastating earthquake.
