MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Afghanistan earlier in the day, killing dozens and injuring hundreds of people, as well as destroying buildings.
The tremor also caused multiple casualties and damage to buildings in neighboring countries, with Pakistan among those countries worst hit.
The death toll from the earthquake has exceeded 200, with over a thousand injured.
“The head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Vladimir Puchkov, has sent an official letter to the acting Afghan Minister of Emergency Situations and the Pakistani Chairman of the National Disaster Management Commission, with words of condolence and an offer to help,” the statement said.
