WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States plans to provide Ukrainian government with the third $1 billion loan guarantee in late 2015, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker said on Monday.
“I am pleased to announce that the President [Obama], working with Congress, intends to move forward with a third $1 billion loan guarantee for Ukraine in the coming months,” Pritzker said.
In January, the US Treasury announced it would provide $2 billion to Ukraine in 2015 should Kiev implement the reform program it agreed to with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The United States and Ukraine can use a third $1 billion US loan guarantee to support continued progress in advancing reforms,” Pritzker said.
The third loan can be provided to Kiev as early as November, according to media reports.
Ukraine's economy has been hit hard by the conflict between government forces and independence supporters in the country's southeast, who refused to recognize the coup-imposed nationalist government in Kiev in 2014.
