WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, the nationalistic Law and Justice party won Poland’s parliamentary elections, winning almost 38 percent of seats in the 460-member lower chamber, according to exit poll data from the pollster IPSOS.
"Obviously we [the United States] have a very strong relationship with Poland," Kirby stated on Monday. "We look forward to working with the new government of Poland after the election results are certified and a new government is formed"
The party supports a greater NATO presence in Poland and has signaled opposition to resettling refugees from the Middle East into the European Union (EU).
On Monday, a Russian lawmaker said the victory of the Law and Justice party is likely to complicate Poland’s relations with other EU members, while Russian-Polish ties, already at a low ebb, will remain the same.
