MOSCOW (Sputnik) – "The man involved in the CBD siege has been safely taken into custody," Victoria Police tweeted.
The police department described the man as "armed with an edged weapon," while local witnesses described the "agitated" man smashing windows and throwing objects at police and the public.
There were no injuries or hostages reported during the standoff thought to have started after a dispute at a local restaurant.
Last December, 17 people were held up by a gunman later identified as self-proclaimed Iranian sheikh Man Haron Monis in a Sydney cafe. The 16-hour siege ended in the deaths of three people, including the gunman.
