MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is invited to participate in the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, France's Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Segolene Royal said Tuesday.
"On behalf of the President of the French Republic I have brought with me an invitation for Russia's President Putin to come to Paris on November 30, where heads of state will address issues related to the global development of our planet," Royal, who is currently visiting Moscow, told reporters.
According to the organizing committee, the forum is aimed at achieving a legally binding comprehensive agreement to cope with climate change by replacing the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
The international treaty failed to introduce stricter regulations for developing countries, and was never ratified by the United States, one of the world’s leading greenhouse gas emitters.
