KIEV (Sputnik) – The Odessa municipal election commission said Hennadiy Trukhanov gained 52.57 percent of the votes in Sunday’s mayoral election. His closest competitor, who finished with 25.7 percent, declared the election rigged.
"Police began cordoning off all four district and city election commissions in Odessa immediately after Hennadiy Trukhanov was officially declared mayor," the Yuzhnyj Courier publication quoted a local source as saying.
The Odessa-based outlet said the police are seizing records without providing court orders or other documents authorizing their actions.
The local police declined to comment on the reports.
Most candidates in some of Ukraine’s biggest cities failed to secure a 50-percent majority, forcing a runoff.
