WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, the nationalist Law and Justice Party won Poland’s parliamentary elections, winning nearly 38 percent of the vote.
"Poland under PiS will be not such a big supporter of Ukraine as before, as 'Bandera issue' and some other thorny questions of our mutual history can be the obstacles in 'historical policy' of PiS," Goralczyk said on Tuesday.
Ukraine’s Right Sector and other pro-fascist political factions have associated themselves with late Ukrainian nationalist leader Stepan Bandera, who collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II.
Polish-Russian relations are also in trouble, Goralczyk admonished, and will remain so until the Ukraine crisis is resolved.
On Monday, US State Department spokesman John Kirby said the United States intends to maintain its strong partnership with Poland after the country’s newly-elected government officially takes the reins in Warsaw.
Bogdan Goralczyk was Poland’s Ambassador to Thailand, Myanmar and the Philippines, and served as the Foreign Minister’s Head of Cabinet. He is currently a professor at the University of Warsaw’s Centre for Europe.
