Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic emphasized on Tuesday that Belgrade remained one of few governments in Europe to resist the introduction of sanctions against Russia and vowed to pursue this policy in the future.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Speaking after a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, the Serbian prime minister vowed "to pursue this policy in the future."

"We think we have displayed our friendly attitude to Russia by staying one of the few European countries that has not imposed sanctions against Russia, despite numerous requests coming from all corners of the world," Vucic said in Moscow.

Last year, the European Union, the United States and their allies imposed a series of individual and economic sanctions against Russian nationals and key spheres of the country's economy in an attempt to influence the Kremlin's policy on the Ukraine crisis.

Russia has repeatedly denied playing any role in the conflict in Ukraine’s southeast responding with a ban on EU and US food products in August 2014. The restriction was prolonged for a year in 2015 after a similar move from Brussels and Washington to extend their anti-Russia sanctions.
