TOKYO (Sputnik) — Japan’s participation in the agreement will be considered at a parliamentary session beginning January 4 and expected to last 150 days, Kyodo news agency reported, citing unnamed sources.
TPP is a hotly-debated trade agreement including 12 Pacific Rim nations, Japan among them, covering approximately 40 percent of the global economy.
Talks on the deal’s wording concluded on October 5, after years of secret negotiations. Ratification of the agreement by the 12 nations is pending.
If Tokyo signs the deal, Japan will have to cancel most of its duties on imported products.
