WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Monday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told a group of newspapers editors the government has been angered by the PKK’s efforts to win international respectability by fighting the Islamic State, according to media reports.
"We understand the terrorist threat that Turkey faces from PKK," Kirby told reporters in a press briefing. "We recognize that Turkey has the right to protect its citizens."

Turkey maintains its commitment to suppress the PKK and any elements connected with it were still regarded as legitimate targets, the Daily Sabah quoted Davutoglu as saying.
At least 37,000 people have been killed in Turkey during the PKK’s campaign against the Ankara government.

On Tuesday, the Turkish Army completed a major campaign that started nearly a month ago in the southwestern Hakkari province against the main PKK base in Turkey.
About 6,000 troops participated in the operation conducted in Ikiyaka Mountains near the village of Daglica and a military outpost in the district of Yuksekova, an uninhabited area serving as a main passage point for terrorists travelling from Iraq to Turkey.
However, the US government continues to arm and fund the Kurdish Peshmerga forces fighting the Islamic State in Iraq.
