MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The crew of Russia’s Admiral Grigorovich frigate held a missile-firing exercise as part of state tests in the Baltic Sea, the Russian Baltic Fleet's spokesman said Thursday.
"The crew of the newest Project 1135.6 Admiral Grigorovich frigate has successfully completed missile firing during the state tests at the Baltic Fleet's maritime target ranges," Capt. 1st Rank Vladimir Matveyev said.
Having passed the state tests, the warship will join Russia's Black Sea Fleet, the spokesman said.
Project 1135.6 frigates, with a displacement of some 4,000 tons, are designed for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare as well as for air defense missions, operating both independently or as part of convoys and naval task forces.
The Admiral Grigorovich frigate will be the first in a series of six frigates of its class being built for the Black Sea Fleet to join the Russian Navy.
