WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US House of Representatives elected Congressman Paul Ryan as its 62nd Speaker on Thursday.
Boehner has previously said Ryan would make "a great speaker," because he laid out a clear vision of how he would manage his responsibilities.
Over the past year, Boehner, who served as House speaker since 2011, has come under attack by members of his own Republican party, who have continuously urged him to resign.
Ryan has served as US House Ways and Means Committee Chairman since January 2015, previously he was chairman of the House Budget Committee for four years. Ryan also ran as the US Republican vice president nominee during 2012 presidential election.
