MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Friday, officials from Iran, Russia, the United States, China, France, the United Kingdom and Germany convened in Vienna for talks on the Syrian crisis settlement. They also discussed other issues.
'We had discussions with the G5+1 [P5+1, specially the Americans on expediting the implementation of the commitments of the other side and we wanted to make sure that these commitments will be implement in different areas of the JCPOA [Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action]," Zarif told reporters, as quoted by the Iranian IRNA news agency.
According to the top Iranian diplomat, good progress was made on the issue of the Arak heavy water reactor in the country.
The Arak nuclear facility in the Markazi province has been one of the stumbling blocks in the nuclear talks between Tehran and the six world powers, who fear that the research reactor could be used to make weapons-grade plutonium.
"We talked about the US measures which need to be taken and for providing guarantee to our trade partners in order not to block trade with Iran and we achieved good agreements in these fields and it was agreed to work more on that," Zarif added.
On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group of Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany signed a historic deal to guarantee the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
