The Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP)gained an absolute majority of votes in the parliament to be able to form the government without having to form a coalition, according to the Central Electoral Committee (CEC).

Ankara Waits Anxiously as Turkey Votes in Crucial Parliamentary Elections
ANKARA (Sputnik) — The Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is leading in the parliamentary elections with 53.74 percent after 45 percent of the votes counted, the Central Electoral Committee (CEC) reported Sunday.

According to the CEC preliminary results, AKP has gained an absolute majority of votes in the parliament to be able to form the government without having to form a coalition.

The Republican People's Party (CHP) is currently gaining 20.16 percent of the votes, and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) obtained some 11 percent. Pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) scored of 10.81 percent now also has a chance to be represented in the parliament.

 Turkey has been run by a caretaker government since late August after the parties that won seats in the June election failed to form a coalition.
