BERLIN (Sputnik) – The French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) announced on Saturday its investigators would to depart to Egypt, accompanied by BFU and Airbus teams, on Sunday, November 1.
"Two experts arrived on the scene at approximately 18:00 [16:00 GMT] on Sunday," a BFU spokesperson said, adding the team would be expanded if requested.
The Kogalymavia Airbus A321 crashed in the Sinai Peninsula early Saturday, killing all 224 people on board. Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov is leading an inter-departmental investigation with Egyptian colleagues to establish the cause.
The tragedy is the largest civilian aircraft disaster in Russian and Soviet history.
The BFU spokesperson said the agency is assisting in the international investigation as a representative of the aircraft’s manufacturer state.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi commented that the investigation could take several months.
