MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kerry and Idrissov also discussed an opportunity for bilateral and multilateral cooperation and further steps for a strategic partnership to be negotiated by the presidents of the two countries in the future.
Kerry is currently on his first visit to Central Asia, meeting with senior government officials of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
“The sides exchanged their views in the spirit of trust on a number of topical issues of regional security and stability. In particular, the sides discussed cooperation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, shared opinions on regional integration of countries in Central Asia, and the situation in Afghanistan and other regional countries,” a statement from the 4th Kazakhstan-US Strategic Partnership Commission read.
Kerry supported Kazakstan’s role in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
