MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A contract on the supply of the Mi-171Sh helicopters was sealed in December 2013. The first batch of four Mi-171Sh military transport helicopters, made by Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, was delivered to Peru the following year.
"Russian Helicopters, under the contract concluded by Rosoboronexport, have delivered 13 Mi-171Sh helicopters. The delivery of another 11 [aerial] vehicles is planned by year-end," the press service told RIA Novosti.
Over 400 Russian helicopters are currently being operated in Latin America and the Caribbean. The most popular models are those of the Mi-8/17 helicopter family, which amount to 320 units.
The Mi-171Sh can be used in a wide range of missions, including the airlifting of military forces, the transportation of cargo, air-to-surface attacks, medical evacuation and search and rescue operations.
