Currently, military forces are limited to weapons with fixed explosive charges and cannot reduce the effects.
The technology was demonstrated on October 21 at the UK Ministry of Defense’s Otterburn Test Range.
TDW is working with an upgraded version of its Range Adaptable Device Incorporating Unique Scaling (RADIUS) system. It will allow military forces to control the effects of any warhead or bomb between 10 and 100 percent. That would allow military forces to focus on the target and reduce collateral damage.
During the tests, the technology was integrated into two identical Mk-82 bombs containing the same quantity of explosive. Two separate firing were carried out – one at minimum output and the second at maximum output.
According to the company, the technology can be integrated to all types of ammunition and used by all armed service – land, sea and air.
