According to Dolgov, US refusal for a retrial is an "extra link in the vicious chain of selective and politicized US justice for Russian citizens."
"We continue to support the efforts of the lawyers, we believe that they are completely justified, as the decision was politicized. Extralegal outrage continues to take place against our citizen, this case was politicized from the very beginning and on all stages, there was no fair trial in this case," Dolgov said.
Bout was arrested in Bangkok in 2008 in an operation by Thai and US authorities, accusing him of providing weapons to Colombian militants.
The Russian businessman was extradited to the United States in November 2010 after a protracted legal battle. He is currently held at a medium-security prison in Marion, Illinois.
The ombudsman stressed that Bout’s guilt has never been proven.
