MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Hassan Abdel Azim, chairman of a bloc of 13 left-wing opposition political parties, said he was in Moscow a month ago and is "in contact" with the Russian Embassy.
"We are open to cooperate with all countries that play a role in the Syrian issue and the resolution of the crisis, whether the countries of the region, the Arab world or the West," Abdel Azim said.
Abdel Azim also underscored that Russia "has a huge impact on the resolution of the conflict."
The NCC chairman said that the talks in Vienna united countries that have a stake in the Syrian civil war, and gathered participants from both opposition factions and government authority.
Moscow has been involved in international efforts to resolve the ongoing civil war in Syria, hosting two rounds of negotiation talks between the government and the opposition in 2015. Russia is also conducting an anti-terrorist aerial campaign in Syria, with airstrikes on extremist positions since late Sepember at Assad’s request.
On October 30, top diplomats from the United States, Russia, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Lebanon and France, as well as UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, met in Vienna to discuss an end to the four-year Syrian civil war.
The participants of the talks in Vienna for a Syrian peace reached a mutual understanding on national unity, the need to eradicate extremist groups, providing assistance to refugees, and restating that the Syrian people must decide the future of their state. These principles became the basis of an agreement signed following the negotiations.
