The US is making a huge mistake by taking a losing side in the Syrian conflict. Washington should give up its intervention efforts in the Middle East, otherwise its reputation will be totally discredited, the journalist argued.
“The president's approach to the Middle East is hardly one of shirking cowardice, as his opponents often cast it. Instead, it is one of dangerous, thoughtless intervention,” Bergman wrote for the Week.
The US’ activities appear to have no specific target. American soldiers are being sent to the region not to put an end to the war, but rather to "reinforce the diplomatic efforts."
According to the journalist, Washington will not help to resolve the conflict in Syria. Its attempts to disturb the Russian operation would rather aggravate and extend it.
“This increased intervention in Syria is the most stupid and potentially ruinous foreign policy decision of Obama's presidency. Syria is becoming a sand-pit for America's reputation,” Bergman wrote.
