MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Maldives President Abdulla Yameen declared a 30-day state of emergency ahead of a preplanned anti-government rally, the presidential spokesman said Wednesday.
"[The] Maldives declares state of emergency for a period of 30 days starting 12pm [07:00 GMT] Wednesday," Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted.
The announcement comes two days after a remote-controlled bomb was detected and defused near the presidential palace in the country.
