The company, lovingly called “Bernie’s Briefs” is the brainchild of three Bernie Sanders supporters Alexandra MacLean, Nick Sherman, and Todd Bailey from Montpelier, Vermont. The trio work together at KSE Partners, a strategic communications and government affairs firm, and started the under garment side business for fun.
The underwear are available in styles for both men and women, and sell for $15 per pair plus shipping and handling.
"It's just an opportunity to bring something fun into what is otherwise a very serious matter," MacLean told NECN.
She also explained that she was inspired after seeing the Saturday Night Live skit where Larry David, portraying Sanders, stated that billionaires have three or four pairs of underwear but he only has one, as well as his appearance on Ellen where he informed the zany talk show host that he prefers briefs over boxers.
When asked by NECN if they had intentions to make underwear for other candidates, suggesting “Trump’s Trunks,” MacLean stated that they intend to just stick with Bernie.
"I think at this point, we're going to stick with Bernie," MacLean said. "He's a Vermonter, we're Vermonters, and that's really why we're doing this."
MacLean also stated that 10% of the proceeds from the undies will go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a charity supports injured service members, and will be donated in Sander’s name.
