PARIS (Sputnik) — France conducted its first airstrikes in Syria in late September, as part of a US-led international coalition that has been targeting ISIL positions in Syria and Iraq.
"A decision has been made to deploy a naval task force led by the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier to take part in operations against the Islamic State," the office said in a statement.
In October, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that the French Air Force had carried out airstrikes on an ISIL training camp, adding that "it is not the first time, it is not the last time," when French aircraft had bombed the terrorists in Syria.
