ANKARA (Sputnik) – Ankara praises Washington’s decision to stop supplying arms to the Syrian Kurds, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgic said Thursday.
"We are pleased to hear that. Earlier, we expressed our concern. We will monitor how it is implemented," Bilgic told reporters.
Turkey, which is home to millions of Kurds, had feared that the weapons provided by the United States could have fallen into the arms of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a militant group considered to be a terrorist organization by Ankara.
According to Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Ankara has warned Washington and Moscow against providing military aid to Syrian Kurds. Moscow responded by saying that no such aid has been given.
