CAIRO (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, the UK government said that a Russia-operated Airbus A321 may have crashed in Egypt due to a bomb explosion, and suspended all flights to and from Sharm el-Sheikh, as well as introduced additional security measures.
“The British decision was taken unilaterally without consulting with Egypt, in spite of high level contacts between the two sides just hours before the decision was announced,” the statement obtained by RIA Novosti read.
The spokesperson added though that Egypt views “positively” additional security measures at the airport as they represent "a routine measure, with no bearing whatsoever on the causes of the crash, and no prejudgment of the results of the ongoing investigation, which is being conducted with the utmost transparency and professionalism and with the participation of international experts.”
A number of major international airlines, including Air France, Flydubai, Lufthansa, Air Arabia and Emirates announced the decision on Thursday to suspend their flights over the Sinai Peninsula amid security concerns.
A variety of leads have been set out by the experts following the accident, from a terrorist act to a technical failure.
Earlier on Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that no theory on the crash can be excluded.
