MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Police arrested a woman suspected of having links to the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group in the southern Spanish city of Malaga, the Spanish Interior Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the detained woman, who is a Spanish citizen, had previously traveled to Turkey with the rest of her family with the intention of joining ISIL in Syria.
The detainee is being transferred to the police headquarters in Madrid for further questioning.
On Wednesday, the ministry said that two alleged ISIL recruiters had been detained in Barcelona by local law enforcement.
On Tuesday, the Spanish Interior Ministry said it had broken up a jihadist cell that intended to carry out attacks in Madrid.
ISIL is a violent extremist group that seized large areas in Iraq and Syria in 2014 and is notorious for its many human rights atrocities. ISIL recruiters circulate their propaganda through the social networks to persuade mainly young people to travel to join their ranks in Syria or Iraq or to carry out attacks at home.
