ST. PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Developed countries face corruption to the same extent as developing nations do, the head of Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative, Jean Pesme, told Sputnik on Friday.

"Every country in the world is exposed to corruption, and I really do not think it is correct to imply that there is corruption only in developing countries — every country in the world is facing corruption risk," Pesme said on the sidelines of the UN anti-corruption conference.

The sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) brought together delegations from member states, inter-governmental organizations, civil society and the private sector in the Russian city of St. Petersburg between November 2 and November 6.

The UN Convention against Corruption is the first legally binding, globally recognized tool to counter bribe-taking. It was adopted by the UN General Assembly on October 31, 2003 and entered into force in December 14, 2005.
