MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Egypt authorities are ready to enhance security measures in airports of the resort zones if necessary and discuss the issue with Russia amid concerns that the Russian A321 plane was downed by a bomb, Head of Red Sea Governorate Ahmed Abdallah said Friday.
"If there is a necessity to take security measures at airports, we are ready for it. We are ready for full coordination [with Russia] to implement all the necessary security measures," Abdallah told RIA Novosti.
The largest civil aviation catastrophe in Russian and Soviet history took place on October 31 when the Airbus A321 crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, killing all 224 people on board.
Earlier on Friday, Moscow announced of suspending all passenger flights to Egypt, including the capital Cairo.
